Born from a 2020 pandemic recording of “Rusty Cage,” the project grew into a heartfelt tribute, coinciding with Soundgarden’s long-overdue Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Each track is performed with reverence, blending unique artistic voices while staying true to Cornell’s spirit. Proceeds benefit MusiCares, underscoring KU’s mission of both musical and human compassion. KING ULTRAMEGA offers hope, nostalgia, and a reminder of Cornell’s timeless brilliance.

KING ULTRAMEGA is a passion-driven musical project honoring the life, voice, and genius of Chris Cornell, launching in conjunction with Soundgarden’s long-overdue Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Created by bassist and producer Mark Menghi, the project grew organically from a 2020 pandemic session recording “Rusty Cage” with friends, into a full-scale tribute driven by deep respect and emotional connection.
King Ultramega breathe new fire into Soundgarden’s classic The Day I Tried to Live, honoring Chris Cornell’s legacy while bringing their own grit and intensity to the track. With Alissa White-Gluz’s soaring vocal power, Kim Thayil’s unmistakable guitar, and a rhythm section locked into the song’s intricate grooves, this version captures both the darkness and resilience at the heart of the original.
